It’s been a rough year already with substantial wind damage in Nashville and some in Knoxville. When shingles are missing or you find them in your yard, you know your home sustained wind damage and you call your insurance company. However, not all storm damage is quite as easy to spot. Here are some clues that may indicated you should call a restoration company and your insurance company for repair.

Roof Damage

As we mentioned missing shingles is a big sign of wind damage in Nashville. However, it’s not the only sign. This is where knowing what your roof should look like helps. If you notice any of the following, you likely have wind damage:

• Bent shingles that no longer lie flat
• Misaligned shingles
• Shingles that curl up
• Wavy appearance to your roof

Not all of these issues are exclusive to wind damage but they are all possible after a strong storm.

Siding Issues

When looking at your siding, you want to look for some of the same issues as you would with your roof. Misaligned vertical siding and missing pieces are a big indication of a problem. If you hear the siding banging against your home in any wind, you likely have an issue that may or may not have been caused by a storm.

Gutters

Your gutters are least likely to suffer in a wind storm. However, wind can lead to issues. Usually it’s when flying debris (like roof shingles, siding or even flying tree branches) damage it. Your insurance company should cover your gutters as part of your roofing system in your insurance claim.
