Although NOAA is predicting a milder winter with below average precipitation, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be mild and dry the whole season. You should take steps now to make sure that your roof is in good shape or schedule roof repair if you know you have an issue. Here are some steps you can take to make sure your home and family are protected this winter.

Clean Your Gutters

This one should be on your list of things to do twice a year, every year. Once the leaves are down off the trees, either hire a gutter cleaner or take care of them yourself. Clogged gutters are a main reason homeowners need roofing repair. The leaves prevent water from flowing down the gutters which means it either goes behind them leading to rotted fascia or water up under the shingles and into the attic.

Perform a Visual Inspection

If you can easily see your entire roof, walk around your home and take a look at it. Sometimes it’s easier to see certain areas with binoculars or from a second story window. Here are a few things to look for that indicate that you likely need roof repair:

• Misaligned shingles
• Cracks, breaks, dents or holes in your shingles
• Curling or bubbling shingles
• Overall wavy appearance to any area on your roof

Also be sure to check your flashing and soffits. Flashing should be sealed and soffits should not be blocked or have cracks or holes. Any roof repair company can handle soffit and flashing repair too.
