No. Even if your insurance company gives you the name of a roofing company to contact, you do not even have to contact them. You are free to choose which roofing company repairs your fire or storm damage. In fact, it’s rare that we every recommend anyone use their insurance company’s roofer. Here’s why.
They get your premium every year. They hope you don’t ever file a claim. However, when there’s storm damage, they know they have to pay. Because of that, they have pre-negotiated rates with various roofing companies to repair the storm damage. They become an insurance company’s roofer when they are willing to charge the insurance company a very low rate. That often means you’re getting a less experienced roofing company or one who cuts corners on the roof repair or replacement.
If a company isn’t making money, they tend to go out of business. This is common with insurance company’s roofers. They want the free leads, but that can mean they’re not able to make the necessary profit to stay in business. Even if they don’t go out of business, they’re not often a preferred vendor of your insurance company for very long.
You may think that just because your insurance company recommends them that they’ve done their due diligence. This is not true at all. You will still need to do your own check of the roofer. Likely you’ll find that they’re new to the industry, may or may not have experience or manufacturer certifications and don’t offer a workmanship warranty. If they do offer a workmanship warranty, it may not matter if they’re out of business in six months.
We’re not your insurance company’s roofer because we do things right. We charge a fair price for the repair which your insurance company has to cover. If they don’t see the damage the way we do, we’ll meet with the adjustor and you and make sure you’re covered as your insurance policy dictates.
