Other Elements You May Need for Your Exterior Renovation

Depending on the extent of your exterior renovation, you may need many new elements. That means choosing new siding, gutter, soffit and fascia colors in addition to the roof color. No matter the scope of your project, you want the home’s exterior to look great when you’re done. As you and your exterior renovation company plan your home makeover, here are some of the other element colors you may need to consider beyond just the color of your new roof.

Choose a Color for the Most Visible Element First

If your home is getting a complete makeover, we always recommend choosing the element you see the most of from the street first. Usually that’s either the roof or siding. Of course, if you live in a deed restricted community, having a list of acceptable colors from the HOA for both is a great way to narrow down your options. Our recommendation is that you not have these two major elements competing for attention. So, if you’re inclined to choose a bright or color blend roof, consider something more subdued for your siding. If you want bright and colorful siding, choose a neutral solid roof.

Gutter, Soffit and Fascia Colors

Today’s seamless aluminum gutters come in many more color options that just white, brown and cream. However, just because a color is available, doesn’t mean you want it for your home. We recommend that you and your exterior renovation company look at how the gutter, soffit and fascia colors will look against both your roof and siding. Most people choose the same color for all three options.

Doors

Rather than replacing your door, paint it. Your garage doors should be the same color as another element on your home. If you have stone and siding or siding and brick, you can match either the siding or the gutter, soffit and fascia colors for the garage door. For the entry door of the home, you can choose the same color as the garage door or, if you have a wood door, a stain that compliments the home.
